5 tips to help your team become better remote workers

In uncertain times, many workplaces are asking employees to work remotely. If your boss told you tomorrow that you’d have to work from home for the next fortnight or more, how would you cope?

Here are some tips to help you work productively, collaborate effectively, and keep business running smoothly.

Also, these tips are super handy – after all, remote work is on the rise. A recent survey of Australian workers showed that the main benefits of remote work are better work-life balance (80%), reduced stress (58%) and improved morale (55%). At home, in a café, or in shared workspaces, people get more stuff done.

So, the big question is, how can your business do it effectively?

  1. Make Zoom your virtual meeting room

Meetings are an inevitable part of working life. Yet, just because you’re not all in the same physical location, it doesn’t mean you can’t meet. At DocuSign, we love using Zoom to connect our global teams. The video and conferencing tool is incredibly easy to use on your laptop, mobile or desktop. You can share screens to work through a presentation together; you can even hold conferences for up to 10,000 people on the platform. Virtual SXSW, anyone?

Top tip for workers: You can still wear your ugg boots to Zoom meetings. No-one will need to know!

2.   Use Slack to collaborate and chat

What about the times when you pop over to Bob’s desk to ask a quick question about a project? What’s the best channel for these types of questions when you’re all out of the office? We love Slack, the collaboration hub where teams can get together, no matter where they are. You can set up a workspace, add channels for different teams, create projects and more. You can also add files into the projects, creating a handy repository for all the info you need to get a job done. No more sifting through endless emails.

Top tip for workers: Don’t be afraid to ditch the channels that you don’t need.  #puppy-memes may just be getting in the way of your productivity.

3.   Work on and share documents with G Suite

G Suite, which integrates directly with DocuSign, brings together Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive and Calendar in one place in the cloud. You can use the variety of tools to create what you need, then easily share and communicate your work with colleagues. Shared calendars let you see when others are available for the next Zoom meeting; and it’s easy to collaborate on documents, slides and spreadsheets. Plus, all updates are saved in Google Drive, so everyone has access to the latest version of your file.

Top tip for workers: Kick back, relax, and use the Voice Typing tool in Docs. You’ve got to try it at least once.

4. Get contracts signed with DocuSign

How do you manage getting an important contract signed by your boss, if your boss is holed up at their own home on the other side of town? How does business keep moving when people can’t sign stuff? DocuSign eSignature is the leading electronic signature solution, enabling you to get your agreements signed no matter where the recipients are. DocuSign eSignatures are legally valid, simple to use, and eliminates the hassle of printing and sending out contracts for signing. And, if you’re new to it all because you suddenly find yourself working remotely, the good news is that you can have your first document and its secure envelope set up in less than an hour.

Top tip for workers: take advantage of the template function and let DocuSign do the real work!

5. Store all your work in Box

You definitely don’t need to access the office filing cabinet if you use Box. You can securely store, manage and share all your work-related files using this secure, cloud-based platform. It’s perfect for remote workers – you can access and share files from your laptop or mobile, wherever you are. To make life even easier, you can use the DocuSign integration with Box to create a document, edit it, share it and send it for electronic signature directly from your Box account.

Top tip for workers: automatically sync folders on your laptop with box, so your work is always backed up, even if you’re in the garden and out of WiFi range!
