5 top tips for making the most of DocuSign for Salesforce

Like an oyster and a pearl, DocuSign and Salesforce are the perfect match. On their own, they’re two powerful platforms. Together, they’re transformative for businesses large and small.

One of our sessions at the recent Momentum APAC event explored the pairing in detail. DocuSign’s Chantel Lorimer spoke to Laura Marinesco, Director of Business Development, Maths Pathway, about how their business gets the most from the pairing. Having used both  DocuSign and Salesforce for many years, Laura had some great tips to share for anyone who’s just getting started. 

First, though, why are DocuSign and Salesforce better together?

“Our sales cycle is quite complex and long, and usually three or four people need to be involved, with a number of documents that need to be managed in that process. MOUs, contracts, SLAs and quotes all need to be customised,” explained Laura. “It was taking a tremendous amount of time and it was having an impact on our bottom line. Our internal customer experience was also quite poor – no-one loves the admin side of the job!” 

Already a Salesforce business, Maths Pathway wanted to find a contracting platform that would seamlessly integrate with the tools their team know and love. So they signed up with DocuSign, and the results were virtually instantaneous. 

“Contracts went from taking weeks or months, to just one day. That’s a tremendous impact. People adopted the technology quickly, too. It was so simple,” Laura said. 

The formula for success

According to Laura, there are five key things to keep in mind when planning your DocuSign Agreement Cloud for Salesforce implementation. 

  1. Understand the customer journey you want to create. From the very beginning, make sure you’re clear on what you want to achieve. Map the current experience, including the issues or blockers currently holding your teams back. Then, draw up the ideal journey. If there were no constraints, what do you want to achieve? You might surprise yourself with what’s actually achievable.
  2. Keep your employees’ experience front of mind. It’s so important to ensure that the new technology will make their lives easier. 
  3. Communicate the implementation. Communication, both internally and externally, is critical. This helps with change management. Make sure people understand what’s in it for them, to help drive adoption.
  4. Have an internal champion or trusted partner. Use an external expert or internal champion to drive the project, someone who can be on call and implement changes in a timely manner. 
  5. Build and revisit your roadmap. Take the time to truly understand the roadmap of the technology you’re adopting. You might surprise yourself by uncovering unexpected ways to use the platform, which deliver even more efficiencies and business benefits.
