Join us in welcoming Katie Lance CEO and Owner of Katie Lance Consulting as a guest on the DocuSign blog where she shares her insights on going paperless.
I live in a world surrounded by paper; business cards on my desk, thank you notes on my wall, sticky notes on my computer and books I want to read on my bookshelf. Yet, every day, I love that I become more and more “paperless” in the ways that are most important to my business and me.
I run a social media consulting firm and work with companies in the real estate and technology space. I am constantly writing and re-writing forms, contracts and agreements. When I first started my business, I would sign and scan my documents to my clients, and then they would sign and scan it back to me. The end result was a signed document – but in all honesty, it was a huge hassle and the quality of the document after all that scanning – it looked awful!
I have worked in the real estate industry since 2005 and know many successful agents and brokers that swear by using DocuSign. I remember the first time I used it – I remember thinking how simple it was and wondering to myself, “why didn’t I use this to begin with?” In fact, I recently posted on Facebook my appreciation for DocuSign and was overwhelmed by the positive response!
There are 3 reasons why I am passionate about paperless:
1. Ease of use on the road. I am always on the go – and I love being able to sign documents on the fly with my iPhone and my iPad. Just last week, I was at the movie theater with my family, and was able to quickly sign and return a contact with a client using DocuSign Ink. Between storing my documents in the cloud with Dropbox and signing them with DocuSign, I never have to worry if I don’t have my laptop with me!
2. Best experience. To me, I am very passionate about providing the best experience for my clients. That experience starts with the emails and phone calls that we exchange – and how quickly I follow up. It includes the personal notes in the mail. Equally important is a professional option for signing contracts and documents. There is something to be said about a professional who DocuSigns – it really adds a whole other level of professionalism to your business.
3. Legality and smooth transaction. I am big believer that any business owner who deals with contracts should DocuSign – it just makes sense and it makes for a smooth and legal transaction. I am so passionate about this topic that one of my clients that I am working with is Cartavi, an official partner with DocuSign. Cartavi is laser focused on making the transaction process for real estate agents and their clients better. They are the only platform in the real estate space that is made for mobile on just about any device. In real estate, there are a “cast of characters” involved – the agents, the clients, the title reps, other family members and more. To get all of those people into the same room virtually and allow them different levels of access is paramount – and this is one of the many things that Cartavi does to make my life – and my clients’ lives – easier.
For me, going paperless has helped to change my business, and build my brand. I’d love to hear your story about how you are going paperless. Please visit my on Facebook Page and tell me how you are embracing this technology!
