Our “We are DocuSign” blog series places the spotlight on employees from a variety of departments and provides a peek into what it’s like to work at DocuSign. This week we sat down with James Chung, Account Executive at DocuSign APAC to chat about his day-to-day work, what he admires about his colleagues and something none of his co-workers know about him.

Q: What do you do at DocuSign?

I joined DocuSign as an Account Executive in the SMB team back in October last year. My role is to understand the requirements of our prospective clients, prove and plan how we will make a real difference to the way they operate, and ultimately win their business (leading to revenue for DocuSign)!

Q: What is the best thing about working at DocuSign?

Apart from the fact that I work with an amazing group of people, it would have to be representing a solution that genuinely makes life easier for our clients and their own customers.

People are always keen to talk about our technology and what it could mean for their business, to the extent of which I haven’t come across before in my time as a sales professional. I’m also privileged to speak with so many unique people across all roles and industries which has done wonders for my business acumen.

Q: What do your friends and family think you do at DocuSign?

To be honest not too many people within my inner circle work in Tech, so all they think is “Jimmy works for a software company in the city and gets to go to Seattle every year”.

Q: What is the best advice you can give to somebody starting a new job in your department at DocuSign?

Tirelessly refine your craft and manage your time well, but most importantly, put yourself in the customers’ shoes 100% of the time.

Q: What traits do you most admire in your colleagues at DocuSign?

The average level of talent and “hustle” here is unbelievable. At the same time, everyone has a great sense of humour and the banter is outstanding. My colleagues all work with a sense of purpose, have each other’s backs, and are pulling in the same direction.

Q: What traits do you think your DocuSign colleagues most admire in you?

I had to ask a couple of my colleagues which was pretty awkward, but it was both flattering and validating to hear their feedback: my team-first mentality, sense of humour, and dependability.

Q: What is something most of your colleagues at DocuSign don’t know about you?

I once fell asleep on a train and woke up after completing an entire lap around the Northern Line (Meadowbank, through the CBD, back to Epping). Also, I kind of rate myself as a singer (completely unfounded) ?.

Q: What is your favorite snack from the DocuSign kitchen?

I’m going to cheat and mention two – popcorn and an endless supply of Coca-Cola.

Q: What is the best project you ever worked on at DocuSign and why?

Without question, it would be our DocuSign Impact program which gives us volunteering time off to dedicate to community initiatives. Since I’ve joined the team we’ve worked with Samaritan’s Purse, Homeless Connect, and individually I’m participating in the Glebe Treehouse Mentoring Program.

Q: If you were not working at DocuSign and could do anything in the world, what would you be doing/do next?

I think it would be intriguing to work in the front office of an NBA franchise or be a sports analyst. Those 2 guys who do the Game of Thrones podcasts (Jim and A.Ron) seem to have a pretty sweet gig as well.

Q: What is the secret for you to happiness?

For me, happiness comes from maintaining balance (relationships, myself, work, faith) and a healthy perspective.
