Our “We are DocuSign” blog series places the spotlight on employees from a variety of departments and provides a peek into what it’s like to work at DocuSign. This week we sat down with Matt Spray, SDR at DocuSign APAC to chat about his day-to-day work, what he admires about his colleagues and something none of his co-workers know about him.
Q: What do you do at DocuSign?
I work as a Sales Development Representative within the xDR team in DocuSign’s Sydney office. My team connects with potential customers who are interested in learning about how DocuSign can change their business. We work out what the customer needs and wants when it comes to DocuSign, and point them in the right direction.
Q: What is the best thing about working at DocuSign?
The people – DocuSign has a great culture combined with some great personalities. I can honestly say, I never have a dull or boring day in the office with some of the characters we have on board.
Q: What is the best advice you can give to somebody starting a new job in your department at DocuSign?
Get involved as much as you can – whether it’s asking questions or shadowing your colleagues, the best way to learn is a hands on approach. When I began, I was fortunate enough to spend an extra week in the Seattle office learning from the guys over there.
Q: What traits do you most admire in your colleagues at DocuSign?
Passionate. Resilient. Collaborative. Easy-going
Q: What traits do you think your DocuSign colleagues most admire in you?
Colleagues would say that I have a solid understanding of the business, and what is required in my role to be successful. I’m easily able to build a high level of trust and rapport with our clients, which leads to my internal team having the assurance that when they are working with me, they’ll get a high standard of work and input every time.
Q: What is something most of your colleagues at DocuSign don’t know about you?
I’ve been fortunate enough to live in four different countries around the world. Australia has always been my home, however I’ve lived for various amounts of time in the United Kingdom, United States and Argentina!
Q: What is your favorite snack from the DocuSign kitchen?
It’s usually hard to come by, but when there’s avocados on hand, I’ll usually try and pair that with some Jatz. Also an earl grey goes down a treat.
Q: What is the best project you ever worked on at DocuSign and why?
I would have to say the DocuSign Impact program. The entire DocuSign staff globally, taking an entire day out of the office to give back to the community. This year we spent a day with at Samaritan’s Purse for the ‘Operation Christmas Child’ packing over 4000 gifts for kids in some of the world’s poorest countries.
Q: If you were not working at DocuSign and could do anything in the world, what would you be doing/do next?
I think the life of a professional golfer wouldn’t be too bad! Travelling around the world, playing at different courses doesn’t sound like a bad way to live.
Q: What is the secret for you to happiness?
I wouldn’t be in sales if I didn’t say a good commission cheque 🙂
